Metal Fencing & Railing

A gate on its own rarely finishes a frontage. This range carries the matching pieces: fence panels, garden and estate railings, rose arches and the posts to set them in, in the same Burbage patterns as the gates, priced from £25.20 to £486 including VAT.

Buy them with a wrought iron gate so the boundary reads as one piece of work, and add the hinges and fixings to finish it. For longer runs, sloping ground or a specification to meet, see railings and fencing and our recent work. For higher security look at bollards and barriers or premises security. We make railings to measure too.

Can I match the railings to my gate?

That is what the range is for. The panels come in the same patterns as the gates, so an Abbey gate takes Abbey panels, a Saxon gate takes Saxon panels, and the frontage reads as one design instead of three purchases that happen to be black. Browse the matching wrought iron gates, and see finished boundaries in our recent work.

How much does metal fencing cost?

From £21 for a short garden railing panel to £339 for the largest fencing panels, including VAT, with gate posts and fixings priced separately. Because panels are sold by the gap they fill, the honest way to budget a run is to measure it and divide, rather than pricing per metre. Send us the measurements and we will work out what the run needs and what it comes to.

Can I get panels made to measure?

Yes. Made to measure is available across much of the range and is quoted individually, which is the usual answer for a run that does not divide into standard widths, a boundary on a slope, or a gap between existing brick piers. See bespoke design, or for larger and specified work our railings and fencing and estate and commercial pages.

Will the railings rust?

They are electro-galvanised before powder coating specifically to resist it, which is a much better starting point than paint over bare steel. They are not maintenance free though. Periodic inspection and touching up any chips will keep rust from taking hold, and that matters most at ground level and on exposed or coastal sites. A wash down when you do the windows and a look over once a year is about the size of it.

Can I install them myself?

Plenty of people do. The fittings are included, the sizes are quoted as the gap to fill, and fixing a panel between two brick piers is well within reach if you are comfortable drilling masonry. A long run on uneven ground is harder than it looks, because each panel has to sit level while the ground does not. We fit everything we sell across Shropshire and the surrounding counties if you would rather it was done for you.

What about longer runs or a specification to meet?

School boundaries, commercial perimeters, listed frontages and anything that has to meet a written specification are handled as projects rather than panels off a page. See railings and fencing for that side of the work, and estate and commercial gates for the entrances that go with them. For perimeters where the priority is stopping vehicles rather than defining a boundary, look at bollards and barriers and premises security.

Do you sell rose arches?

Yes, in the Abbey and York designs, in the same powder coated black finish as the railings. The side panels come as one complete section with solid steel infill bars, and they are designed to assemble without tools, so they are a genuine DIY job rather than an installation. Like the rest of the range, they will want periodic inspection and touching up to keep rust from starting.

Do you fit and repair fencing you did not supply?

Yes. Panels that have worked loose, posts that have moved and railings that have started to rust at the base are all common, and usually cheaper to put right than to replace. We service and repair gates and railings whoever installed them, and if a run really is past saving we will tell you that rather than patch it. Send us a photo and we will give you a straight answer.

What are the railing panels made of?

Solid steel, with typical frames of 25mm x 10mm and 12mm diameter infill bars, electro-galvanised for rust resistance and then powder coated black. Scrollwork, where the pattern has it, is 10mm x 3mm flat bar. Each product page lists the construction for that panel. They are made by Burbage Iron Craft in the same patterns as the wrought iron gates, which is what lets a gate and its boundary match properly.

What size gap does a panel fit?

Panels are quoted by the post to post gap they fill rather than the bare frame width, and the fixing gaps are already accounted for, so you measure the opening rather than doing the arithmetic yourself. A Stirling railing panel, for instance, fits a total gap of 1830mm, which is six feet. Heights vary by pattern from around 395mm garden railings up to 950mm fencing panels. If your run does not divide neatly, talk to us about made to measure.

Do fittings come with them?

Yes. Fittings for mounting onto brickwork, metal or timber posts are included, so the panel arrives ready to install. Screws and wall plugs are not supplied, because the right fixing depends entirely on what you are going into, whether that is brick, stone or a timber post. Gate posts are in this range too, including concrete-in latch posts, and hinges and latches for the gates are in gate and fence accessories.
